A Century of Music

Beginning 1996 albums:

Weezer - Pinkerton (1996)
Beck - Odelay (1996)
The Fugees - The Score (1996)
Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals (1996)

Can I just listen to Pinkerton twice instead of a 1996 album to be named later. Love it

Moseley Shoals is a Britpop I love but unlike Oasis or Blur, did not carry over success to the States - a pop gem

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing..... (1996)
Tool - AEnima (1996)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads (1996)
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go (1996)

Tough to top Murder Ballads and Everything Must Go from yesterday, but gonna wrap up 1996 with a couple of key hip hop album's of the year, the Tony winner for Best Musical, and Wilco's alt.country sprawling double album.
13 albums for 1996 is a bit light for the year and certainly could include a few more (Eels, Marilyn Manson, Sublime) but I think I've covered a decent range of 1996 music and hit the high points (and really don't feel 1996 as deep a year as its flanking years). Want to try to get a decent amount of 1997 music in before my Thanksgiving vacation.

After yesterday's 1997 playlist, started on albums of that year today starting with:

Radiohead - OK Computer (1997)
The Verve - Urban Hymns (1997)
Blur - Blur (1997)
Supergrass - In It For the Money (1997)
Buena Vista Social Club (1997)

I've actually be able sporadically the past couple of weeks to finish 1997 then move on to 1997

Couple of remaining 1997 albums:

Ween - The Mollusk (1997)
Elliot Smith - Either/Or (1997)

Made me think of that old MG member who was really into Elliot Smith - blanking on who currently - I remember joining the MG and this guy's favorite artist was Smith and, at the time, I was like "Who?"

After a playlist of 1998 songs - not the greatest year IMO re: pop music, moved on to some 1998 albums:

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998)
Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (1998)

Air - Moon Safari (1998)
Pulp - This Is Hardcore (1998)

With two weeks left until Christmas, have diverted much of my listening to holiday music, but still help to do enough scattered albums to finish up 1998 then do 1999 before year end - I'll have finished 80 years of music and the 20th century and will be looking ahead to Jan to start the 2000s :)

Moving on to 1999. Looking back to early Dec, 1998 albums got a bit of the short shrift, but wanna keep on track and finish the 20th century by week's end (and really IMO 1998 isn't that strong a musical year).

But today doing the 1999 playlist thang!
