Audiophile Thread

Jude, the founder of Head-Fi, asks the co-CEOs of Sennheiser about their plans. It's kind of CYA talk. The more interesting takeaways are in the comments.

Stereophile reviews the Schiit Sol turntable.

Read the beginning, scanned the middle set-up part, read the end.

If I were a turntable, I'd be S-O-L.

I always skip over the section about how certain artists and albums sound with the equipment, because odds are I have never heard them and I have no interest in hearing them.

Several months ago, my brother sent me his Meridian Digital Converter 203 outboard DAC. It took me many moons to get around to setting it up, and he chided me lovingly but vociferously.

Instead of using the Audioquest coaxial cable he sent me with the outboard unit, I purchased a Pangea Premier XL digital cord for this purpose. I ran this cable out of the digital output from my CDP (a 20+ year-old Ultech UCD-100).

This stepped-up arrangement has gobsmacked me with conniptions of brought me great pleasure. It has reduced listener fatigue.

I be liking what it does.

And yet you only use it to listen to podcasts.

I swear affirm, I will crawl through my very thick coaxial cable and do my version of "The Ring" on you, which is pretty tame in comparison. :elisabs:

The following is added to allow you to read what certain albums and artists sound (like) with the equipment:

You're using a 31 year old DAC? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Is it multibit or R2R?

I don't know. I'll need to get back to you on that one.

P. S. There are a lot of teeny bits inside.

P. P. S. The price was right. I didn't even pay shipping and handling.

As an audiophile, have you ever stopped to think that you might be listening to the music at a higher level of sound quality than the musicians themselves have heard the recording?

It's an unsettling thought.
