Our Next Musical Venture?

Indeed, love the earlier decades, but chose these years because the concept of the album/Long player (which started around 1955) was in full force. I don’t mind going to 1955, but prior to that, it’s really smaller collections of singles or books of 78’s. In addition, didn’t want to make it harder for folks who really don’t listen to that far back. Figured most could find an album they know and love from 1960 onward
Zeeb, I agree that 1960 (or maybe 1955) makes it easier on our members to find material in their comfort zone. It seems like more of a stylistic boundary than a technological one, with Elvis as the Big Bang that rearranged the universe.

I did decide to expand the year range a bit and will start including 1955-1959 to our range. There is a lot of great music from that era. Still want to adhere to the traditional "album" era so not gonna go earlier.

So with that in mind, Time to randomly generate a year from 1955-2017 for our next album picker, OjaiSam. Monday, he will post our next album to listen collectively

Ojai's year will be:

1982

Ah, high school (for me, anyway)

Remember, selectors should feel free to pick rare albums or well-worn classics, any genre (pop, rock, soul, jazz, electronic) - a favorite of yours that you'd like others to play and discuss.

1982!

I was still single, a youngish attorney working in DTLA and trying to figure out my big life choices. :axo: Lots to choose from musically, too.

I'm on it! Thanks, Zeeb.

Although I haven't even gotten to Sam's choice (apparently excellent) for this past week, need to keep things moving so...

Time to randomly generate a year from 1955-2017 for our next album picker, Nickyboy. Monday, he will post our next album to listen collectively

Nicky's year will be:

1974

Remember, selectors should feel free to pick rare albums or well-worn classics, any genre (pop, rock, soul, jazz, electronic) - a favorite of yours that you'd like others to play and discuss.

Can't wait until Monday, Nicky :)

Hello. Zeeba asked me to fill in for him. Our next album picker will be @Mattafett, and the year generated is:

1977

Feel free to pick what you like, Matt, whether popular or more unknown.

This should be good.

Thanks to Rick for posting the next year up
My concern is that Matt, who is up next, hasn't checked in over the past month (not sure he's posted in the album thread). He certainly will be back but in the interest of keeping things moving along in case Mattafett is busy, will move on to the next member

Rotation to Pick the Weekly Album:
1) Zeeba Neighba
2) Axo
3) LP Freak
4) Unsom
5) OJai
6) Nickyboy
7) Mattafet
8) Old Uncle Toe

So, OUT - you're up next with a 1977 album pick. Since, I'm springing this on ya, feel free to take a day or two if you need. Thanks!

Yikes! Okay, but give me a few days. I just got back from vacation. Despite rumours of flood, I was in the low country near Charleston, SC. The AirBNB normally didn't allow animals. There was no way my daughter could leave home without her dog. We averted the clash by working it out with the landlord. In her puppy's eyes we were heroes!

But I have to tell you, after a few days with my niece's kids I felt like a zombie. They have a real lust for life, and they're about as placid as a rocket to Russia. I had to make an exodus or there would have been sorrow tears and blood before long. We had a lot of fun, except when we saw a televised speech from a politician we'll gently call "the idiot." While he would like to consider himself a star, wars are not far away if he stays in power much longer. Then it'll be lights out for our country.

Anyway, when I get a chance to peruse the releases from 1977, I'll post something. But right now I can't think of a single album from that year. My damned damned damned memory...

Just about every sentence in that paragraph evokes an album or song name. Bravo, sir!

Help us, OUT. ;):axo:

Seven picks later and one fully cycle of nominated albums, and I am delighted with this series so far. Many of the listens were new to me - ALL were worth hearing. Let's keep it going as we move to the top of the list and....oh, me again

Time to randomly generate a year from 1955-2017 for our next album picker, Zeeba Neighba. Monday, I will post our next album to listen collectively

My year will be:

1979

Another 1970s pick, but random is random (delighted though as I do enjoy the 70s - but almost too many choices )
