Concert thread? Whaaaaat? There's no concerts, right?
Actually mulling today about an old concert from my youth.
So listening to 1985 today which was the year of Live Aid - no I didn't go to JFK in Philly. Watched on MTV at home
However I did the next year go to one of the Conspiracy of Hope concerts done on behalf of Amnesty International. A series of 6 concerts in June 1986. There I was with a couple of friends at Giants Stadium NJ for this all day show. How did I get tickets - who the heck knows?
Was texting the friend that I went to today - as I looked up the concert details, it amazing the things I remember and the things I don't. U2 and the reunion of The Police for that concert - absolutely. Bryan Adams and Lou Reed....hmmmm, vague recollection.
Actually remember groups like Third World and Ruben Blades with Santana and Fela (the last I didn't know at all)
Also remember a special taped message from Pete Townshend who couldn't make it because of his father's illness (and I remember some jerks booing)
But then I read about the other acts:
Remembered Peter Gabriel on the program but can't remember any of his set
Miles Davis?? Whaaaaat? Did I see him - wow what an awesome experience that I completely don't remember
Yoko Ono singing "Imagine"?
Joni Mitchell coming on in place of Townshend???
How can memory be so selective? (no I don't need an answer but it's indeed vexing)
For years, I would wear my sweatshirt from the concert all the time as it slowly faded. Man, wish I still had that.
Here's a decent blog about another guy who was there and clearly recalls more
