Greg Burk ~ The Way In (2006)

Solo piano musings with a 20th-Century classical bent. Reminiscent of Keith Jarrett or Brad Mehldau.

Elton John - 17-11-70+ (2017)

Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

For Record Store Day, UMG trotted out a limited edition 2 LP version of this classic live show with a key difference: all seven of the songs cut from the original album have magically reappeared. It only took them 46 years, but we finally get to enjoy the complete show. And a barn burner it is. Elton, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson never rocked harder in their lives than before this small studio audience.

Wiki sez:

John has stated in several interviews that he believes that this recording is his best live performance. He has also cited the album as a great showcase for the musicianship of drummer Nigel Olsson and bassist Dee Murray. It is also the only officially released example of what John's live band sounded like prior to the arrival of guitarist Davey Johnstone, who wouldn't be a member until the release of Honky Château in 1972.

According to longtime NYC radio personality Dave Herman (who can be heard at the beginning and end of the album), Elton John cut his hand at some point during the performance, and by the end of the show, the piano keys were covered with blood.

Max Roach & Stan Levey - Drummin' The Blues (1958)

Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

Another great album recorded live at the Lighthouse. The two stellar drummers are joined by the equally luminous house band of Howard Rumsey, Dick Shreve, Bill Perkins, Bob Cooper, Frank Rosolino and Conte Candoli. It's hard to believe today that L.A. jazz aficionados could hear such high quality music on any given night just by taking a short drive to Hermosa Beach.

^ Whoa! Get down, already!
