Beauty Farm - Gompert: Motets (2015)

MI0004228003.jpg

When looking for some recordings of works by Renaissance composers, came upon this group and their recordings of Nicolas Gombert
I first thought I had completely searched incorrectly - most vocal groups have names that include words like "Scholars" or "Consort" or at least "Ensemble". What kind of a name is Beauty Farm? And what of that album art - 50s sci-fi design, odd color choices, and a picture of a sole vocalist that looks like he's screaming in an Ed Wood movie. And all their album covers are like this!
But this vocal sextet is the real deal. Nice takes on these old chestnuts :)

Here's a few other album covers by the group - WARNING: you cannot unsee these once clicked

1. You have intrigued me with the music.

The International Sweethearts Of Rhythm - Hottest Women's Band Of The 1940s (rec. 1945-6, Rosetta 1984)

Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

Doubtless the rarest of Rosetta Reitz's essential reissues, this disc showcases one of the great lost bands of all time. "Hot" is an understatement for the ISR's steamy mix of jazz and R&B.

If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'. See and hear for yourself:

^Liked for the album art.

Now:

MONO - Nowhere Is Now Here (2019)

I would wager that you would like the music too, on some level. Very late night/early morning listening. Beautiful, entrancing fare, with enough variety to prevent inducing of sleep, except for perhaps the last cut, which is minimal and gentle, like benevolent sleep.

I need to listen to any new Mono. How that be?

Edit: I thought about that Secret Machines' album of similar name.

The MONO was good, with room to move to very good.

ETA: they seem frozen in time. This was a classic post-rock sound.
