Tom Principato & Steve Wolf - The Long Way Home

An interesting departure. Usually Principato is a guitar on fire. On this, it's peaceful, restful jazzy jams. In fact, the bass guitar is the gentle leader in some songs. Actually very nice to listen to. Good music to work to.

Boz Scaggs - Out of the Blues

Boz Scaggs' new album, due to be released on 7/27/18. Three tracks are available to stream on Noisetrade. On the previous two albums and this next one, Boz tributes his funky old R&B beginnings. I like the previous two and am looking forward to this one.

My favorite of theirs is Bloodrock 3 (Inventive titles were obviously their specialty), although I may be in the minority on this one. "Jessica" and "Breach of Lease" are among the slow burners on "3".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't care for modern groups that go for this type of sound? Is it a case of "been there, done that?"

"Heaven forfend! Sir, you cut me to the quick!"

Honestly, I'll have to think about that question. What modern groups (do you think) have reimagined or reinnervated this kind of boogie-rock sound?

I'm talking in general terms retro-sounding psych rock groups like the Black Angels.

The Who Hits 50! (comp)

Yesterday was the 16th anniversary of John Entwistle's passing and was in the mood to listen to Quadrophenia to hear some of the Ox's best basswork. Also noted on my last.FM charts that The Who was coming close to joining the 1000 scrobble club on my artist list (the 11th artist to make the list).

Further review of scrobbles made me realized that my listening of the Who has been almost entirely album based - why not? They've got some great albums out there. But with all those listens to the Who's albums up to 1978 (or the comp Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy), I've listened to "Eminence Front" a whopping ONE time in 9 years (sure I've heard it on the radio). And I LIKE "Eminence Front". I mean, for God sake, I've listened to "Odorono" 9 times in that timeframe..."Odorono"! So as I don't revisit certain albums, definitely missing some singles like "You Better You Better" or even songs like "Join Together" (non-album single) or "Trick of the Light" (I don't break our Who Are You too much)

So why not a Who comp! This, perhaps their most recent comp (of many) includes the usual suspects but also songs like "Zoot Suit" (recorded as The High Numbers), "The Last Time", "Call Me Lightning", "Dogs", "Let's See Action"...and, yes, "Eminence Front" (yeah it does have a couple of their late releases as well as "Squeeze Box" - gack I hate that one.

Tas Cru - Memphis Song

But for some reason, I really want to listen to the Bloodrock. Patience, patience.

I throw my hands up in the air sometimes
Saying "Ayo! Gotta let go!"
I wanna celebrate and live my life
Saying "Ayo! Baby, let's go!"

Oh....I thought you were listening to Taio Cruz....never mind ;)

I know it must be a constant problem for those two. It doesn't help that they look so much alike, either.
