Ringo Starr - Give More Love (2017)

This one flew in over the transom and I'm glad it did. Ringo's 19th  album continues the winning formula he's employed since Beatle days: start with an ingratiating persona, select some cool tunes to cover, surround yourself with stellar musicians, and don't forget to HAVE FUN. From the Fab Three, Sir Richard has expanded his reach here to sweep in the liks of:
Oh yeah, and some old guy who plays bass left handed.

Ringo's aims may be modest, but over the years he has achieved them with greater reliability than his bandmates.

:4.0: on the Sam-O-Meter. His reach never exceeds his grasp.

U2 - Rattle and Hum (1988)

Haven't listened to this one in probably 30 years
Man did I really think U2 was tremendous in high school - loved War, saw them at Amnesty International Concert, great set at Live Aid
Then The Joshua Tree came out and was not as impressed as everyone else - it was good but perhaps just turned off by the overexuberance toarards it. Then this album came out and though I'm often lenient towards live albums, there's some real shit on this album (and not good shit) starting with the awful cover of "Helter Skelter" with screwed up lyrics. It's so hit and miss but tries to be so important.
U2 would get some redemption in my eyes with the different directions of Achtung Baby but they would never be quite as esteemed in my eyes (and ears) again.
