The Gin Blossoms - Mixed Reality (2018)

Last night after dinner, Mrs. Ojai and I strolled down to The Arcade for our first ice cream cones of the summer.

On the way back home, as we enjoyed our handmade Chocolate Oreo ice cream, we heard the familiar jangly guitars of the Gin Blossoms wafting across the street from beautiful Libbey Bowl.

The Blossoms opened this year's concert season. Although we didn't go, one of the joys of Ojai is the ability to absorb our rich musical menu all over the "downtown" area. They sounded so good that I decided to sample their latest release. Glad I did, this is a really strong album.

So, it would be easy to write off the Gin Blossoms’ newest album, Mixed Reality, as a ploy to capitalize on the nostalgia of the decade where they saw some of their biggest successes. After all, they are touring with popular ‘90s alternative rock acts Tonic and Vertical Horizon this summer.
