Fun fact: My ex-boss is Dana of "O, Dana". She could tell I was skeptical when she told me, so the next day she brought in pictures of them together and a couple of old notes and a letter she kept after they broke up.

Shite! St. Paddy's Day has snuck up on me. For the 2-3 weeks before, Irish reels and ballads radiate from my speakers with a certain Gaelic verve. Now just realized 4 days left and nary a spin of my Irish/Celtic collection
Oh well, I have a few days left. Starting with Planxty, the mid-70s group that was a major part of an Irish music renaissance

The Association - Renaissance (1966)
The Association's second album is darn near as good as their outstanding debut. The absence of hit singles like "Cherish" is more than offset by a slew of lesser known but strong tunes delivered with gorgeous harmonies and sparkling folk pop arrangements. We even get psychedelia with "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies".

Listening to a playlist of the top 50 songs listener's voted on (or requested, I'm not sure) for Larry Kirwan (of Black 47) for his Sirius XM show Celtic Crush. When the Loft wasn't being replaced by The Billy Joel channel or Eagles Channel, it was one of the best, eclectic rock channels on satellite.
It's not truly an "Irish music" list, as you can see - some groups/artists aren't Irish (some like Johnny Cash's version of U2's "One" are just Ireland-connected by still kicks ass) but most have a Celtic flavor to them. Still, really enjoy the list (which extends to top 100, I'm just playing 50 down minus some tough to find singles). Heard him do this list a couple of times over the year. Kirwan has such a wonderful knowledge/appreciation of Irish music, and it's is a delight to listen to his stories and interviews.
