Not nearly as mesmerizingly magnificent as their debut, but this followup is a very good mash of NeoSoul and Lite Funk in a wanna-be-like-EWF-brought-to-the-late-90s kind of way.
Various Artists - WUMB Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan's Birthday Show (2018)
WUMB, Boston's NPR station, has a folk music orientation. One of their programming highlights is Albert O's weekly show, featuring folk-rock of the 60's and 70's. Every year, Albert does a special tribute to the Bobster to celebrate his May 24 birthday with a well-selected mix of Dylan's originals and covers, emphasizing less familiar versions.
Scott Johnson over at Powerline shared this year's playlist so I decided to post it here. It's complete apart from a few rarities not on Spotify for which I chose suitable replacements in the same vein. It makes for excellent listening. How could it be otherwise with everyone from Cher to Nina Simone to Fotheringay with a large helping of The Byrds?
Y'know, in college I had a lot of Kansas albums - there were no cool U.S. prog bands that I knew of at the time (of course, now I know Kansas was best when it kept things simpler into catchy shorter rock songs). Even saw a shadow of their 70s self in concert at (of all places) a six flag. Still, nostalgia as I am, I enjoy Leftoverature and this one even today.
So I hit "Dust In the Wind" on the Top 6000 songs list today (will post later, but it moved up several hundred since the last list) and (long story long) that triggered this album's listen
