David Bowie - Lodger (1979)

Now that's a classic!

Unfortunately, "After The Goldrush" wasn't Dolly's biggest faux pas in the cover department. Behold "Stairway To Heaven", done up bluegrass style:

Not on Spotify, and I can sure see why.
Oh dear. I wonder what she was thinking. I mean literally. "This is so far out there, it's going to work!" or "This is really pushing it. There are a bunch of other good songs on the album, hopefully this one track won't kill the sales."

Good question, Toe. If Dolly were a typical bluegrass artist, I'd say the former. But Dolly being Dolly, the answer may just be "because I can."

Carrie Newcomer - Visions And Dreams (1991)

Well-crafted debut from midwestern folk singer-songwriter. Insightful songs and creative acoustic instrumentation add up to a winner.

:4.0: on the Sam-O-Meter.

Actually, that makes the most sense of all.

And just because I'm here...

Lizzy Ross - Read Me Out Loud

She's now in a duo called Velvet Bell. Saw them live a month or so ago. She's a really talented vocalist who plays a mean guitar. (The flamenco number was amazing.) He's a really talented musician who can sing and harmonize really well.

Buck Owens - Buck Owens Sings Harlan Howard (1961)

Buck's de facto Bakersfield concept album. The whining steel of Ralph Mooney was tailor made for these classic tales of heartbreak penned by Ol' Harlan. They were mostly hits for other folks (notably Wynn Stewart) but Buck makes them his own.
