Lunz ~s/t (2002)

Modern Classical, Ambient

This album was composed, performed, and recorded by Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Tim Story.

Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free (2015)

At the dawn of 2018, I bought The Nashville Sound and ended up liking it a lot. A lot, lot. The music is made for me as far as country/americana goes, but the lyrics are what really drive my appreciation. I finally decided to try another Isbell album and went with the one just before TNS.

Only 1.5 listens yet, but it's another winner so far.

Kris Bowers - Heroes + Misfits (2014)

Classically trained, attended Julliard, won the Thelonious Monk competition in 2011, proficient on all keys and gadgets and electronics. This is a good first album, but it's been a few years and I was beginning to wonder if he had been passed by and had lost his career. But I just noticed that he's done two movie soundtracks (The Green Book and Monsters And Men) so I guess it's not a career-ending but a career-shift. I'm glad he's still making music, but I'll miss him in Jazzland.

The AllMusicGuide review mentions comparisons from Phillip Glass to Stevie Wonder to Oscar Peterson.

Now you have captured my interest. Is it anything like Cluster?
That's a little hard for me to say, having listened to it only once so far. I do like it quite a bit.

It's quite a bit like Tim Story's best work, and he has been one of my favorite New Age / Ambient composers, and Roedelius is a co-contributor / performer in Lunz.

While I don't see this album on Spotify, I do see a Lunz 3 there. It's a new (2019) release.

Marcus Strickland - People Of The Sun (2018)

I love the opening to the review on AllMusicGuide (btw, that full review is at the link embedded in the cover art)
AllMusicGuide said:
At this juncture in the early 21st century, jazz is undergoing one of its circular metamorphoses where it intersects with the popular music and production of the day. From the Robert Glasper Experiment and Kamasi Washington in the U.S. to Sarathy Korwar, Shabaka Hutchings, and Nubya Garcia in the U.K., global jazz, hip-hop, R&B, Afro-Cuban, and modern jazz embrace one another. Saxophonist and composer Marcus Strickland is a seasoned veteran who helped to pioneer this new rhythm and production aesthetic in jazz ...

SFJazz Collective - 2018 Live: The Music of Antônio Carlos Jobim disc 2 of 2 this time around, for the first time.

EDIT: I came across this quote from the SFJAZZ.org website.
Along with Duke Ellington — still to be picked by the Collective — Jobim has been on the band’s short list for years. “These guys can play pretty much anything,” says Wolf, noting that other recent nominees have included Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as Prince. “The band has been around for 15 years and they’ve taken up many of my favorite composers.” Who else would he like to see on the list? “Honestly, if I could choose just one in the coming years, I’d pick the music of Freddie Hubbard — or Weather Report. I love Weather Report, and because a lot of the guys in the band are into electronics, we could go that direction, too.”
:eek::eek::eek:
What a tantalizing group of potential honorees. Ellington, EWF, Weather Report, and Hubbard. I motion that the Collective make those four nominees their NEXT four choices. Though not necessarily in that order. I don't know whether I want EWF or Hubbard first.
