Clairy Browne And The Bangin Rackettes - Baby Caught The Bus

I loved this band and their throwback sound of '60's girl group/R&B/Doo Wop/Soul. Sadly, the leader broke the band up after one album and decided to solo. She moved away from this great sound and embraced pop music. Nothing wrong with that choice from her perspective, but to me it's a loss from a genre not often represented and even less often represented well.

They got their American exposure from this great beer commercial.

Lorraine Ellison - Sister Love: The Warner Bros. Recordings (rec. 1966-73, Rhino Handmade comp. 2006)

Some of the finest deep soul ever recorded. Her emotional power is beyond description.

Wolfgang Muthspiel - Earth Mountain (2008)

An Austrian guitarist, German bass 'n drums brother duo, and a Swiss pianist walk into a bar ... and a damn fine album is created.

After enjoying Rising Grace for over three years, I noticed he had a new album out with most of the same personnel as RG. And for some reason I instead ordered this album, created with three musicians I've never heard or even heard of. And I'm glad I did. I know I'll eventually get Where The River Goes, if only because it's damn hard to get new music with Ambrose Akimusire, and I haven't missed anything with him yet (except his debut.)

This is freaky good music. Just four guys who know their instruments like the rest of us know breathing. Four guys who obviously love music, love making music, wherever that creation might lead. Each song is different than the next. Nothing seemingly sets up the next in tone, tempo, style. But every song is an undeniable joy.

Or maybe I'm just feeling generous with my opinion because after a week of only left-speaker sound, I ran new wire to the right speaker. Returning to the land of Stereo feels like I stepped out of a black and white Kansas cornfield into technicolor Oz.

Brodbeck is a lyrical and virtuosic player who shares Muthspiel's early grounding in classical music; his Song Of Tchaikovsky (Unit, 2007) was an improvisation-based spin on the Russian composer's legacy.

Along with Phil Robson's Six Strings And The Beat (Babel, 2008), Earth Mountain is co-leader so far in the European guitar album of 2008 stakes,

John Betjeman - This Record Was Made By John Betjeman On The 9th Day Of June 1959 (1959)

The Poet Laureate of The United Kingdom reads his own works. He described himself as "a poet and hack." Modest self-deprecation or truth in advertising? Now you can listen and decide for yourself. ;)

Bruce Springsteen - Passaic 9/19/1978

2998

Excited about this concert finally getting an official release. As a senior in high school, had really gotten into Bruce but no live official documents were released yet. This was right before his mammoth 1975-1985 set. The local record story clerk knew I was into Bruce and reached behind the counter and brought out a multi-album box of this concert. My first exposure to bootlegs. Quality was not bad really - still own it but never break it out. But really glad to hear in again - tremendous show.

Yelena Eckemoff Quintet ~ In the Shadow of a Cloud (2017)

JR will recognize a few of the performers on this two-disc set.
I think I might need to put that on my shopping radar. I've heard of Yelena, but don't think I've ever heard her. But the four members of her band are all faves of mine.
