A new thread begins with 12th Century music. Only here at MG.

Rosanne Cash - 10 Song Demo (1996)

All Music Guide was churlish enough to point out that there are actually 11 songs and they are not really demos. BFD AMG!

Obviously they don't recognize genius when they hear it.

Minimalist packaging from the heyday of generic brands suited the unplugged vibe of these intimate songs.

Rachel Podger - Bach: Sonatas & Partitas, Vol. 1 (comp. 1720, rec. 1999)

Highly complex solo works performed on a period instrument by a highly regarded master. At the time, Podger was serving as orchestra leader and concerto soloist with The English Consort.

:5.0: on the Sam-O-Meter. Gorgeous and revelatory.

Shirley Collins & The Albion Country Band - No Roses (1971)

flisten

Zeeba's post reminded me that this one has been on my bucket list forever. Shirley had been a key player in the British folk scene since 1959 so it only made sense that she would eventually plug in to the electric sound. With help from the likes of Ashley Hutchings, Simon Nicol and Richard Thompson, she couldn't go wrong. Her voice is more earthy than Sandy Denny and the ACB matches it with a tougher sound than the Fairporters.

Great stuff. Thanks, Zeeb! :cheer:
