What Movies Have You Seen Lately?

My sister-in-law was insisting last weekend that "The Legend of Tarzan" (newest one) was fun and total escapism and totally worth the Netflix delivery. We just watched it.

My sister-in-law owes us one Netflix queue spot. One of the most idiotic films we have watched in a while.:mad::mad:

I agree it was idiotic. It was also ridiculously unrealistic. Okay, I know the entire premise of a baby being raised by apes is unrealistic to begin with. However, making the leap of faith to accept that still leaves me galactically short of much of what takes place in TLoT.

And yet, I sort of enjoyed it. Probably because I saw it with JazzySon and the movie's shortcomings didn't affect his enjoyment of it. Kids are affecting my judgement.

Yeah, I can see that having a young child enjoy it with you would probably rub off on you and make it more fun. I just found previous versions of the film less requiring a leap of faith, despite the overall story line.

One scene that bothered me probably the most was when Samuel L Jackson's character made the impetuous decision to join Tarzan the the incredibly fit young African men on a miles long sprint through the jungle and through the trees -- and then he somehow managed to keep pace. That one was one of many, and to many viewers maybe one of the least bothersome, but it bothered me the most.

We watched the "Trainspotting" sequel, "T2" the other night. While I love the first movie, there was absolutely no reason in the world to make "T2". All the original cast was back, but.....so what. Zero character development and I just didn't give a damned about any of them. 1/2 star.

We watched "Love Crime" with Kristen Scott Thomas and Ludovigne Sagnier today. Fantastic, twisted story. Has a few "wait...wtf?" moments, but it all is worked out in the end. And the soundtrack was phenomenal. Watching the credits, I saw a name I learned here at the MG! Pharaoh Sanders!

Thanks, MG!

I watched the newest Guardians of the Galaxy movie and I liked it quite a bit. Fun movie for a Sat. afternoon. 3.5/5 stars

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

This is a film version of an anime story. It was pretty good. 3.25/5 stars

We tried to watch "Allied" last night. Starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, it seemed to be promising, with a spy-vs-spy story line. So incredibly dull and lifeless, we turned it off about half way through. 1 star, and no more.

We watched "Atomic Blonde" last night. We felt it started great, the middle section lagged, but then it picked up for the last 1/3 again. Charlize Theron is a believable agent and kicks lots of ass. Great '80s soundtrack and set in Berlin. What's not to like? I give it 4/5 stars.

Baby Driver (2017)

This was really fun to watch. Car chases set to music, and the music is like another character. 4.0/5 stars

I watched that last week during the snow'd-in days. I agree with your verdict. The 80s German/Euro soundtrack was great. Something about the smugness of the storytelling rubbed me the wrong way, but the actual filmwork was stunning, scene by scene.

Blade Runner 2049

95% unnecessary sequel to classic film. No one will ever mistake this for the original. After the opening sequence, I was almost bored by the first half of the film. The final third helped this avoid a losing vote. Watchable (mostly for the camera work) but utterly missable.

3.25 stars
