What's For Dinner?

Tonight we are going to make a dish I haven't had since I was a little kid: Arbeiter Cordon Bleu. It's a "working man's cordon bleu" which is a popular weekend dish, or late night after drinking in Switzerland. It's a Cervelat sausage, split in half, spread with sambal olek and chopped rosemary, then a slice of Swiss cheese, wrapped in bacon, and baked until the bacon is crisp and the cheese is soft. And a mixed salad with Swiss dressing on the side.

Today is Mrs. Nickyboy's birthday, so I am making her Marcella Hazan's Italian meatloaf with dried porcinis, home made potato gnocchi, and braised Swiss chard with garlic and hot pepper flakes. A bottle of Chianti classico to drink with it.

Please wish her a happy birthday from me!

Mrs. Ojai and I enjoyed many a steak, martini and Joe’s Special at this 24 hour fixture on the Westside.
As I have said before, it is sad when long-running institutions shut down. Maybe you could go to the auction and get some branded (if they have them) plates and/or mugs?

Dinner tonight was veggie. Veggie burgers with all the veggie toppings, potato salad, and home made pickles.
