Random Music Thoughts

I'm glad that Talking Heads didn't end their recording career on True Stories. It would have seemed like a failed effort ascribed to a failing band. Naked isn't a perfect Talking Heads album, but the first side is delightful. To me that's enough to redeem True Stories. And the fact that Naked isn't perfect through and through seems a proper harbinger for the end of the band. They didn't go out on top but even though the band was splintering, they didn't just phone in the final effort.

So, always eager to broaden my horizons years after other people, I decided to listen to Tool today - I have never heard a Tool album, and a friend recently told me they were his favorite group (initially I laughed at him as I thought he said Train was his favorite band).

So (as I'm sure many here know) they're not available for streaming on Apple Music or Spotify and not even available for purchase in the Apple Music Stroke. But apparently they have an album out in August (their first in years) and members have pages on both Apple and Spotify so rumor has it they'll be streaming soon...I can wait.

I was long oblivious to Tool. A couple or three years ago, someone urged me to watch a Youtube video of kids playing "46 & 2", one of Tool's hits. My son also learned that song with his guitar instructor of the time. I liked the song so much, I bought the CD with it and put it on one my legendary mix CDs. I liked the album, but no other song struck me as being as good as "46 & 2", but I'm sure I didn't give it enough time to make an impression on me.

Hi, Zeebs. I'd like to ask you a couple of questions, OK? First, what is your name? Do you know who the president is? Can you give me a big smile? Big smile! That's it. Now, lift both of your arms above your head. And now repeat this sentence after me: "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog". Say it again. OK, good.
