Bernard Herrmann - The Ghost And Mrs. Muir (soundtrack 1947)

Khachaturian should have rocked the Oscar, but he couldn't act.

I have wondered whether Levant was his real name, or if he gave himself that name in reference to the Middle East (Holy Land).

I suppose I could look it up if it was important.
Levant was in fact his parents' real name. They were Orthodox Jewish emigres from Russian. Oscar was well known for his hypochondria, so much so that Alexander Woollcott said of him: "There isn't anything the matter with Levant that a few miracles wouldn't cure."

Mady Mesple, Roland Bufkens (great names, those :worm: ) Orchestre & Choeurs de la RTB (Edgar Doneux, cond.) - Gretry: Zemire et Azor (comp. 1771, rec. 1975)

The king of French comic opera tells the tale of Beauty and The Beast in delightful style. The Overture and interstitial music stand on their own merits, so much so that they were regarded as favorites by Marie Antoinette, Mozart and Thomas Beecham. The CD version is filled out with a suite of dances extracted from several of Gretry's operas. The LP version originally appeared on the "La Voix de Son Maitre" label. Who even knew that Nipper spoke French? :cheer:
