Citrus Sun - Ride Like The Wind (2018)

Incognito founder Bluey's other band (which includes most of Incognito minus the singers) dropped this last week. Bluey's Citrus Sun albums features Brit guitar legend Jim Mullen, and features more instrumentals than the Incognito albums. Incognito albums always include four or five instrumentals, all good, and a couple from each album are spectacular. On first listen, I like this a lot.

Don Braden - Earth, Wind & Wonder (2018)

This Jazz tribute to the music of Earth Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder works much better than the Cory Weeds album of EWF songs released late 2017. This album maintains the essence of the songs while being firmly in the Jazz tradition.

While the Weeds album grew on me a little (going from not liking it very much to being able to appreciate its good qualities,) this Braden album shows how it should be done. With the Weeds album, at some point all the songs sound alike and less like their original versions -- seriously, often I can't tell which song is being covered. Here, each and every song maintains its individuality. It's clear Braden created the more thoughtful translations.
4.0/5.0

EDIT: I wish this was titled "Earth Kool and Wonder". I'd love to hear Jazz renditions of songs by Kool & The Gang.

Jason Palmer - Take A Little Trip: Jason Palmer Plays Minnie Riperton (2012)

After listening to Don Braden's tribute to EWF and Stevie Wonder yesterday, I wished it also could have included some Jazzy love for Kool & The Gang. Later, I had a hankering for some more Jazzy love toward 70s Soul. Then this came to mind.

I'm glad it did. It fits the bill perfectly.
AllMusicGuide 4.5 star review said:
...her music is deep with harmonic and melodic material for an artist like Palmer to explore. Here, he reworks a handful of Riperton's songs, including such classics as "Lovin' You" and "I'm a Woman," into expansive yet intimate jazz numbers that both celebrate the source material and deconstruct it.
...
The result is an album that, while showcasing a respect and deep of knowledge of Riperton's music, is first and foremost a forward-thinking jazz album. ... "Inside My Love," with its sense of ruminative, sensual isolation, even recall the introspective '70s avant-garde jazz sound of Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava.
...
Palmer's Take a Little Trip is a joyful ride.

Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth (2018) disc 2 of 2

After listening to the first disc several times, this is my first time listening to the second disc. That was intentional. I wanted to get a feel for my opinion of each disc discretely, instead of forming an opinion of the entire 3-disc set. Just me being me.
