Yes, in the UK singles and albums were perceived as two separate markets. Quora sez:

In the US, the expectation was that hit singles should be included on albums, but in the UK, the perception was different. I’ve generally heard this attributed to the comparative wealth of the two countries. In the US, people had enough money that they didn’t mind the idea of buying an album that duplicated songs they’d already bought on a single—they’d even perceive it as good to have the song in the context of an album. But British record buyers were more frugal, and wanted more value for their money. This also led to UK albums typically having 14 songs, while American albums of the era usually only had about 11.

Thanks.

One of my favorite bootlegs finally sees the light of day. :cheer:

It was fantastic. I'm so glad it found its way into my collection. Among others, the stripped down version of Since I Fell For You is a delight. It fits the lyrics better than the big band sound of that song on the studio album.

I love Bonnie. Sadly, she never had the chance to love me back. But I console myself by listening to her albums. Currently finishing up this one.

Bonnie Raitt - s/t

Pretty amazing for a debut album. I'd like to read the story of who produced and why they chose the sounds they did. Lots of different styles on the album. Pretty ambitious for a debut, but they pulled it off.

She lived next door to my wife's childhood home in West Philly. Her parents remember her well. And the kicker? When my wife was finishing college at UPenn and I was finishing grad school, my wife rented the building exactly on the OTHER side of Bonnie's. Like it was meant to be. Somehow.

Oh the memories we'd have made. Double dates with you and your wife, Me and Bonnie, all of us sitting on the back patio of some little brownstone, you wearing some kind of manly apron grilling mahi mahi with a bit of tarragon and homemade mango relish with salted watermelon for snacking, your wife pouring an inexpensive yet delicious zinfandel, Bonnie playing guitar and all of us trying to sing along and laughing until our cheeks hurt... The neighbors would gather on their own porches just to smell the food, hear the music and grow warm smiles as they heard us laugh together. Later in life I would have written a romantic comedy about all of us that was a huge summer hit and got rebooted into a television series and made us all millions of dollars... Bonnie, financed from her own career, would give all of her proceeds to save koalas, skim plastic waste from the oceans and provide musical instruments for inner city children. Somehow indeed. If only...

I love it.
