What Are You Listening To? July 2019

Beautiful voice. She leans toward historical music that doesn't always agree with my taste. But her voice is so good that I listen anyway.

My feelings as well. I would say she probably accounts for at least 50% of any listening I do for some genres. I don't necessarily dislike those genres, but I rarely listen to them. Her voice, and the fact her albums bounce from sub-genre to genre to sub-genre (within each album) keeps me interested.

Weather Report - Mysterious Traveler (1974)

I've never been a big fan of Weather Report. I figured today would be a good day to give them another listen. I don't hate this today, but it is meandering mediocrity. Every once in a while, the melody hits a groove and they successfully mine it ... then mine the life out of it ... and keep mining its corpse. It doesn't become bad, just overdone. The best of it reminds me of Hancock's Fat Albert's Rotunda music.

Feeling generous, I'll end my comments there.

ETA: I think I'm warming up to it.
