Pere Ubu - The Long Goodbye (2019)

The "DIER" on the cover makes me very sad. Message from David Thomas, who is very ill.

Shpongle ~ Are You Shpongled? (1998)

I've been spongled, if not shpongle-ized. [My eyes don't look like that.]

No illicit, street, or (even) newly-legalized substances were used in the enjoyment of this CD.

Ulver ~ Bergtatt: Et eeventyr i 5 capitler (1995)

Wonder why I'm listening to these? Okay, you aren't. But, imma gunna tell you, anyway.

I bought both these CDs for 50 cents at a local sale. I also bought two Porcupine Tree CDs for 50 cents.

I'm really financially tapped out right now. :judge:

Ezra Collective - You Can't Steal My Joy (2019)

Brit Jazz group that seems to be gathering traction with press and live events. Like many contemporary Jazz musicians in the US (and across the pond,) Ezra uses the gumbo approach to Jazz, tossing every musical scrap into the pot, stirring it up, and not worrying one whit is the combinations "should" fit.

Good stuff.

Grover Washington Jr - Strawberry Moon (1987)

AllAboutJazz has a review of a recently released boxed collection of Grover's output for Columbia. Though I was very familiar with his music in the mid 70s and 80s, those Columbia albums were my the first Grover albums I owned, thanks to the Columbia Tape/CD clubs. Looking back, these albums were instrumental (no pun intended) in helping me learn to appreciate Jazz and become a bigger fan of Jazz.

The reviewer's unabashed appreciation of Grover's music was infectious enough to get me to play some Grover this morning.

:4.5:
The music comes across as sincere and no matter if Washington plays modern acoustic mainstream, electric, funky and smooth or flirts with vocal pop. He covers all styles with a personal and adventurous approach. His versatility is sometimes overlooked, but it shines through in a box set like this.
