Porter Wagoner & Skeeter Davis - Sing Duets (1962)

MC02NjYxLmpwZWc.jpeg

Before Dolly, even before Norma Jean, Porter recorded this collection with Skeeter Davis. The Nashville Sound production of Chet Atkins skillfully blended pop and country influences, with the steel guitar of Pete Drake a real highlight. Porter and Skeeter blend well on a group of songs that suits them perfectly.

Sabine Meyer - Mozart: Serenades Nos. 11 & 12 (1997)

I discovered clarinetist Sabine Meyer through 1001 Classical Recordings and can't get enough of her work. Her pure tone and the sympathetic support of her ensemble suit these effervescent compositions perfectly.

Was listening to Howard Stern's "Wrap Up Show" today and Jason Kaplan mentioned that he is into a new (?) band named Goose today. They are a jam band along the lines of Fish. I like a few of FIsh's songs, but over all....meh. Jam bands don't really do it for me. I was never a Dead Head, after all.
BUT....they played a few clips. It fluctuated between "that's cool" and "that's crap" back to "that's cool", etc.
I went to youtube to check out their latest. While the video is blah (trying to hard to be cool and arty), I really like the music. I think I will investigate this band further. Some definite Krautrock mixed with mathrock. Right up my alley, potentially.
And aside: "Goose"? Oh, "FIsh" was taken? Are we going to just name our bands after animals to be cool now? What's next, "Pelican"?
Oh.....wait. :D

eta: this song has a major Talk Talk vibe to me.

Spotify's This is Isaac Hayes playlist

The "This Is..." playlists are hit and miss but this has a nice mix of Ike including some hip hop songs sampling him (e.g. Wu Tang Clan's "I Can't Go to Sleep"), his duets with Mille Jackson, and a really smooooth cover of "Lay Lady Lay" he has on a Dylan tribute album
