West Side Chicago Blues (as opposed to South Side) incorporates a little jazz into the blues mix. And frankly, Melvin has released out and out Jazz albums. This is my favorite album from my favorite West Side artist.
So Spotify had Christina Aguilera on the banner - something about a new album release. So I listened. I know the woman can sing. There was a ton of "concept" and other stuff. I'm not sure I ever heard her just plain exercise that voice. I skipped more tracks than I listened to. Time for a new producer.
Edit: Surprised at my own harsh comments, I dug a little deeper. There are a couple of tracks where her vocals are highlighted. Those are nice to listen to. But I still say she needs a different producer.

Sort of an all-star band for young lion Jazzmen with fusion (fusion via beat dropping as opposed to fusion via rockish guitars) tendencies.
Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin, Justin Tyson. The first four are band leaders with strong followings among listeners of Jazz of the 20teens.
Different levels of success, but this would be almost as if Lee Morgan, Dave Brubeck, Stanley Clarke, Joe Henderson and Bobby Hutcherson hooked up in 1972. Okay, not quite, but I was excited when I heard this was in the works.
How is it? I like it a lot, but diehard fans of 1960s Blue Note and not much Jazz after the 70s might be feeling a little led astray if they listen to this first as a blind buy.
