Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters - Live at the Grey Eagle
(Sorry for the big picture. RYM doesn't have this one yet.)
I currently can't get enough of this band. Americana with an old school country singer-songwriter influence. The lyrics are warm and wonderful, the band is a delight (I love the old country style pedal steel guitar), the vocalist's phrasing has a way of soothing my soul like few others do. And on this live album you get a sense of the fun the band has performing.
Various Artists - Tommy Boy: Greatest Beats (1985)
At first glance, that a Hip Hop label would release a greatest hits compilation in 1985 seems like a school naming its valedictorian after the first-quarter report cards were released. However, these songs are truly great as they relate to the history of Hip Hop. So while the timing might be seen as early, the songs presented are certainly worthy.
It's a kooky as hell album. Playing it at work and at one point my nurse peered in with a "what the hell are you listening to" glance. I find the songs hit or miss
