J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton -
The Road To Escondido (2006)
Eric's post Cream sound owed more than a little to J.J. Cale, who contributed his first solo hit "After Midnight" as well as the Slowhand loping beat. All these years later, God and Cale finally made it into the studio together. These songs have the loose, joyous feel of old friends trading blues licks at home. Billy Preston, Taj Mahal. Albert Lee and Derek Trucks all joined the festivities but there isn't a hint of the self-conscious pomposity that usually ruins such all star sessions. This one is a delight from start to finish.
