Bobby Watson - Jewel(1983)
Years and (and recently) I'd read that little good Jazz was produced in the late 70s, 80s, and 90s. I think some of the complainers must not have been looking all that much, or maybe they were looking only the same names that were playing music in the 50s and 60s. Certainly, most of the Jazz stars of the 50s and 60s were not releasing much if any music during the 80s. But, as the years go by and I continue to fill in my gaps during those years, I find more great Jazz during the period from '75-'99 than I can absorb.
Watson is but one of many great musicians of the era. I can't get enough of him.
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Buttercorn Lady (1966)
Keith Jarrett, Chuck Mangione, and Frank Mitchell join the band to replace the departing Wayne Shorter and friends.
The more times I listen to this, the more I can't deny that this is my favorite album of all time. And for me it has a deep spiritual significance, even if I don't know how to explain it in words or even know what I believe.
