If modern country music sounded like this, I would have no problem listening to it (as long as it wasn't racist/fascist).

I concede that TVB share a commonality with folk rock.
There is a sadness to their songs that is reflective of country music, but I would describe it more as a reminiscent sense of wistfulness - of always seeking but never quite arriving.
Yet, there is contentment in that.
