Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters



Amanda is a good songwriter and lovely singer. The band masquerades as Americana but is really a throwback to Tammy Wynette-style country music. It's executed in a way that doesn't sound dated. I guess you'd call it an Americana band owing it's roots to 1960's country. Whatever. I like it.

Like Sinatra and others of the period, many of Julie's singles never appeared on albums. This collection finally captures all of them, including the two on Bethlehem that appeared only on an old vinyl compilation. Julie may have been the sultriest singer of all time.

Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds - Fowl Play



Kind of on the R&B side of rock and roll. Backup band includes a three piece horn section and harmonica player. It's a fun band to see live. I like the singer, but have heard others say they wish she'd try less acrobatics and just carry the melody.
