Legends of Country: Classic Hits of the 50s, 60s, 70s

Legends of Country : Classic Hits of the 50's, 60's and 70's (3 CD BOX SET) + Bonus

So for gifts, family used to rely on my Amazon Wish List for ideas. Over time, I guess there's just not much that I need - used to love DVDs, CDs, books and most of those are available streaming, digital and if I want something, I just typically buy it. So have gotten away from updating the Wish List. So on my birthday, my wife's dad send me this collection saying "Not much on your wish list so took a chance".

Of course, I do have many of these tracks already and currently have no working CD player (and don't have a desktop/laptop with a CD drive to upload. Still, it was a nice gesture c/w the usual shirt/sweater gift, but it's been gathering dust since April

He recently broke his hip and is rehab and is not doing so well heath-wise, so when I came upon it the other day, decided to recreate the set with a digital playlist and listening today. Nice comp starting with Bob Willis/Ernest Tubb and ending with Ronnie Milsap/Johnny Paycheck.

Appreciate this set and appreciate my father-in-law. Hope he does better.

Gotta get that CD player fixed, Zeeb. :elisabs:

Emerson String Quartet - Webern: Works For String Quartet; String Trio (1995)

There's more to string quartets than mellow Mozart. Anton Webern was a student of Arnold Schoenberg, whose edgy atonality permeates these fascinating works. As an Austrian who stayed after the rise of Hitler, Webern's attitude toward Nazism has excited a lot of debate. Sadly, he was shot and killed by an American soldier early in the Occupation.

When you play Schoenberg, Webern, or Alban Berg, does Sophia Bella think you are angry?

Alan Hovhaness ~ Armenian Rhapsodies No. 1, 2, & 3; Symphony #38; Concerto #10 (for Piano, Trumpet and Strings) (1997)

I may now have as much Hovhaness as I do Keith Jarrett. I have actually been appreciating Hovhaness for longer than Jarrett, who I did not know until 1973. I would say it was 1971 or '72 when I bought my first record on the Poseidon Society label.
