Various Artists - Dick Tracy In B-Flat (1945)

R-3251837-1322414863.jpeg.jpg

During WWII, the Pentagon created the Armed Forces Radio Service to provide entertainment for the troops. Like the V-Disc program for musical recordings, AFRS had first call on the top names in Hollywood. This episode of Command Performance from February 1945 represented the pinnacle of what we now call "old time radio".

A bevy of stars including Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, The Andrews Sisters and more took part in a still-hilarious send up of Dick Tracy and detective drama in general. The dialog and song parodies have a such a sharp edge that this program could never have appeared on commercial radio but the GI's, sailors and Marines for whom it was designed loved it.

Geoff Aymar Quartet ~ Can't Stop Now (2006)

This is too straight-up piano bar music for me. He plays well, but nothing stands out.

[I listened to the whole thing...

well, unitl my dogger asked for walkees.]

Syd Matters ~ s/t (2006) [Compilation of first 2 albums]

I'd almost forgotten how much I like this French group that sings in English. Much less famous than Air, but definitely worse a listen.

La Rossignol ~ Ecce Novum Gaudium: Canti e musiche natalizie nel Rinascimento (2009)

P. S. That's Renaissance nativity music to you, Bub.
